How to Care for your Sodded Lawn
Initial Care
Adequate watering is the most important care to give a newly sodded area.
Give the new lawn about an inch of watering within a half-hour of installation.

Water daily for about 2 weeks until the sod is firmly rooted, then a less frequent watering schedule is needed.

Light use by people and pets is allowed immediately. Avoid heavy or concentrated use of your lawn during these first weeks to allow for roots to establish.

Maintenance
Nutrients
Apply 1 pound of nitrogen fertilizer per 1,000 square feet of turf as described:
Tall fescue blend - 3 times per year
Between mid-September and mid-October
Mid-November
Between mid-March and mid-April

Kentucky bluegrass - 3 times per year
Between mid-September and mid-October
Mid-November
Between mid-March and mid-April

Zoysia - 3 times per year
June
July
Early August

Also, lime as indicated by soil testing.

Mowing
Mow frequently at the proper height. This keeps the lawn thick, to compete with weeds and hold up to traffic.
Never cut more than 1/3 of the grass blade.

Letting grass grow to the taller end of its range establishes deeper roots and better resistance to weeds and drought.

Water
Water correctly to water less often.

Grass roots watered deeply will grow deeper, where they will stay moist longer and require less watering.

Water as early as possible in the cool of the morning.
