Sod or Seed?
Sodded lawns are easy to establish and provide a solid return on your landscaping investment. While the site preparation is similar for sodding or seeding an area, the maintenance required to establish healthy turfgrass is lower for sod. Here's a comparison that will help you decide to install a Lavery's Sod Farm lawn.

Site Preparation For both sodding and seeding you or your landscaper will need to:
 Remove existing plant growth
Till soil, and amend if needed, to obtain 1 inch of loose soil
Remove rocks, sticks and other debris
Rake to create a smooth surface

Initial Care Sodded lawns require less initial care than seeded lawns do.
Sod needs to be watered adequately to establish successfully.
Seeded lawns need water, additional fertilizer and overseeding to fill in thin or missed places.

Usability Sod will tolerate traffic sooner than a seeded area.
Sodded lawns can usually withstand traffic within 2 weeks of installation, depending on local conditions.
Seeded lawns require as long as 2 months to withstand traffic, and 1 year to become fully mature and established.
